Technical Questions

  1. Linear Algebra: Orthogonal matrix
  2. Calculus: Chain rule, given ( f(x) ), find ( f’(x) ); also included Newton’s method
  3. Probability: An ant starts at one vertex of a cube and randomly moves to one of three edges at each step. What is the expected number of edges it travels before reaching the vertex opposite its starting point?
  4. Brain Teaser: On an ( n \times n ) chessboard, infection spreads as follows: each square has 4 neighbors, and if at least 2 neighbors are infected, the square becomes infected. What is the minimum number of initially infected squares needed so that all squares can be infected?
