Interview Process

The online assessment included four questions from the CodeSignal question bank, of which three and a half were completed. The onsite interview consisted of a coding round and a system design round. The coding questions included “Remove Prefix String” and “Most Frequent Call Chain,” both of which were manageable.

In the system design interview, the focus was on designing a feature for Instagram, specifically discussing the hot key problem related to celebrities. The approach taken was based on common patterns found in resources like Alex Xu’s material, which is considered a classic problem.

Behavioral questions were standard, but the interaction with the hiring manager felt disconnected. Despite discussing my background, which was primarily product-focused rather than infrastructure, the hiring manager seemed distracted, possibly recording notes rather than engaging in the conversation. Overall, this round was a poor experience, and I received no feedback after being informed I was not moving forward.

Tips & Insights

Be prepared for the variability in hiring manager preferences, as a strong preparation may not guarantee success if the fit is not perceived. Additionally, it has been noted that Roblox does not sponsor visas.
