Interview Process
The interview consisted of two rounds. The first round was with a portfolio manager and involved a case study that was unrelated to engineering. The second round focused on a one-hour session of pandas data wrangling, including various operations like merging and custom apply functions. The interviewer was supportive, allowing time for syntax checks and assisting with areas where I was initially stuck due to a lack of recent experience with data wrangling. I answered two out of four questions, estimating a score of about 70%. There was an acknowledgment from the interviewer that this interview differed significantly from my usual work. However, there was a concern that focusing solely on data wrangling in a machine learning engineer interview might indicate a lack of machine learning expertise within the team.
